A 5-speed manual transmission was still the standard while the 5-speed automatic transmission with overdrive was available as option for the convertible. Fuel economy data for the coupe includes 19 mpg in city and 26 mpg in highway while the convertible includes 17-19 mpg in city and 25-26 in highway driving. Standard comfort and convenience features include air conditioning, power windows, power door locks and leather seats. A sunroof and power seats still came available as options for both trims. For entertainment, both the coupe and the convertible offered cassette player as standard equipment while a CD player and Navigation System comes optional. The '99 M3, like other BMW, offered safety equipments that include standard ABS brakes, traction control and driver, passenger and side airbags.
